Retired CAPT Elizabeth F. Claverie, MS began her USPHS Commissioned Corps career as a Health Service Officer who specialized in Microbiology - Infectious Diseases and Prevention.  Her first duty station was with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) in Washington, DC.  She began her career as a senior lead regulatory microbiologist. During her tours with FDA/CFSAN, some of her regulatory research and senior regulatory review scientist highlights included but were not limited to the President’s 1997 Food Safety Initiative (FSI), scientific work on the rapid detection and immunotoxicity of Bacillus anthracis in certain high target foods and rapid detection and isolation of Enterobacter sakazakii in infant formula.  In addition, while at CFSAN, she was awarded a fellowship by NATO whereby she studied Advance Molecular Microbiology at the University of Birmingham, England (UK). 

Following the tours within FDA/CFSAN, and the NATO fellowship, she served in leadership roles for the remainder of her career.  The leadership was in infection control and prevention of medical devices within FDA/Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH).  During her tours with CDRH, she led, managed, coached, trained, mentored and directed teams on numerous activities to include the Center’s COVID-19 Pandemic Personal Protective Equipment Team, COVID-19 Pandemic PPE and Sterility Devices Emergency Use Authorization Teams, Ebola Infection Control Team, H1N1 Team, Ethylene Oxide Team and etc.  

Throughout her career, CAPT Claverie served in multiple leadership roles.  She was appointed by FDA Commissioner, Dr. Margaret Hamburg as FDA’s Ex-Officio to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC).  She served as ex-officio until her retirement.  In addition, she served as the subject matter expert (SME) and leader of infection control and prevention of medical devices across DHHS Agencies, other Federal Agencies (e.g. EPA and USDA), the White House, International groups and governments. 

Since retirement, CAPT Claverie serves on several Board of Directors including The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.  Lastly, she is the Principal and Lead Consultant for Claverie & Associates Consulting (specializing in the regulation of medical devices) and serves as Singletto’s Strategic Regulatory Advisor.
